USM awarded for contribution to researching and preserving memory of 1989 Revolution in Romania

The Institute of History of Moldova State University (USM) was honored with the Award for active scientific contribution and cooperation in research, promotion and preservation of memory of the 1989 Revolution at an event dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Timisoara Revolution Memorial, held on 24 April 2025.

The distinction comes as a recognition of the involvement of the institute's researchers in studying the historical processes that led to the fall of the totalitarian regime and for the scientific collaboration with the Memorial, focused on protecting and harnessing democratic heritage.

According to USM, the award highlights the shared commitment to cultivating historical memory, supporting democratic values, and deepening the research of recent history in the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

The USM Institute of History expressed gratitude to Timisoara Revolution Memorial for the appreciation, reaffirming the desire to strengthen the partnership in service of the memory of the struggle for freedom and national dignity.

The Revolution Memorial is a museum and research institution in Timisoara, dedicated to documenting, preserving, and promoting the memory of December 1989 Revolution – an event that led to the fall of the communist regime in Romania.

Founded in 1990, the Memorial operates as a center for archival and historical research, collecting testimonials, photographs, documents, press, recordings and objects that reflect the fight for freedom and national dignity. The institution also plays an educational role, organizing exhibitions, conferences and activities dedicated to recent history and democratic values.
