PHOTO // Minister of Defense meets with his Lithuanian counterpart in Vilnius

The strengthening of the bilateral partnership and Lithuania’s support for achieving Moldova’s strategic objectives were discussed by Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi during a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart, Robertas Kaunas. The dialogue took place in the context of the Moldovan official’s visit to Vilnius.

The two ministers reviewed the main achievements of military cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Lithuania, with a focus on assistance and expertise in several areas. Minister Anatolie Nosatîi praised the Lithuanian side’s contribution to developing the NCO corps of the National Army, training personnel, and providing state-of-the-art equipment.

The official also thanked Lithuania for the support offered through international platforms such as the European Peace Facility (EPF) and the Defence Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI), as well as for the assistance granted in the context of Moldovan soldiers’ participation in missions under the aegis of the European Union.

During the meeting, the parties also agreed to deepen the dialogue through new initiatives on modernization and the sharing of best practices in cyber security and the prevention of information manipulation.

In Vilnius, the Minister of Defense also met with the Chair of the Lithuanian Parliament’s Committee on National Security and Defense, Rimantas Sinkevičius, and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Audra Plepytė. Democratic reforms, current security challenges, and efforts to increase institutional resilience were the main topics of discussion. The European integration path of the Republic of Moldova and Lithuania’s firm support for achieving this strategic objective were also addressed.

The visit also included an exchange of views with members of the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union, the Chief of the Lithuanian Defence Staff, Rear Admiral Giedrius Premeneckas, as well as representatives of the Air Force and the “Juozas Vitkus” Engineer Battalion, the “Major General Stasys Raštikis” Armed Forces School, and the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Training Center in the city of Kaunas.

The talks focused on Lithuania’s experience in managing a high-quality education process in the field, promoting national values and civic engagement in ensuring security, and the importance of strengthening societal resilience in the context of current challenges.
