Moldovan PM participates in awards ceremony recognizing rescuers' achievements
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu today took part in the awards ceremony recognizing the achievements of employees of the Interior Ministry’s (MAI) General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), got throughout 2025. The event is held annually on the occasion of Rescuer’s Day.
PM Munteanu congratulated the IGSU staff on their professional holiday, highlighting the courage, dedication and commitment they show in their work. In particular, he praised their involvement in interventions on the Dniester River, in the context of the pollution crisis caused by Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. From the very first moments, 378 rescuers were mobilized, who intervened quickly, in an organized and professional way.
“They worked in the field, in difficult conditions, in order to limit the effects and to protect people. In such moments, the true value of an institution is revealed – not in statements, but in action. But beyond numbers and interventions, there is something that cannot be measured: people’s trust that, in their hardest moment, someone will come. You are the ones who build this trust, every day,” the prime minister emphasized.
Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu also assured that the government would continue to treat with utmost seriousness the strategic and complex role of the IGSU: “We will invest in modern equipment, in training and in international cooperation, so that every intervention is faster, safer and more efficient. Yet, no matter how important and advanced the technology is, the essential element stays the human being. The courage, discipline and responsibility that you prove cannot be replaced by anything.”
The prime minister awarded the Government’s Certificate of Honor to four IGSU employees who had distinguished themselves in various missions over the past year. In total, at the Awards Gala, 56 employees from all IGSU subdivisions of Moldova received honorary titles, certificates and medals. The list included such titles as Rescuer of the Year, Best Firefighter, Best Diver, Best Paramedic, Best Dispatcher and Best Emergency Vehicle Driver.
More than 2,000 firefighters and rescuers work at the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations. The IGSU Awards Gala is at its tenth edition, being organized annually on the occasion of Rescuer’s Day, marked in Moldova on April 5.
