PM says State Flag accompanies Moldovans in all important moments of life
The Republic of Moldova celebrates State Flag Day. The festive event, held outside the government building, was attended by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean, members of the cabinet of ministers and MPs.
In his message, the PM emphasized that, 35 years ago, the flag of Moldova had flown on the parliament building as a symbol of unity, sovereignty and national revival. Today, the flag is hoisted on city streets, carried to mountain peaks, accompanies students who stand on national podiums and athletes who bring medals for the country. Moreover, the flag stands with soldiers on peace missions and stays a bridge that unites the Diaspora with Moldova.
"It is the flag that accompanies us in all important moments of life and reminds us that, wherever we are, we carry the same colors, the same dignity, the same hope. The blue of the tricolor reminds us of the peaceful sky and the dream of freedom. Yellow brings to the soul the richness of the land and the light of justice. Red carries the courage, sacrifice and solidarity that have united us as a people," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The festive ceremony included performances by the Presidential Orchestra, the Academic Honor Guard Choir, the Special Battalion Fulger and students of the Stefan cel Mare Police Academy.
The tricolor was designated as the state by the lawmakers of the first parliament on April 27, 1990. The Flag Day was established by the parliament of Moldova on April 23, 2010. The solemn ceremony dedicated to the State Flag of Moldova can be watched on the government’s webpage.
