Dialogue between Moldova's central and local authorities in Comrat
The enhancement of cooperation between central authorities and local authorities in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (UTA Gagauzia) and the development of a constructive dialogue was the goal of today’s meeting held in Comrat. The discussions were attended by Deputy Secretary General of the Government Alexandru Iacub, state secretaries from ministries, mayors and representatives of the authorities from the autonomous region.
Deputy Secretary General of the Government Alexandru Iacub emphasized the openness of the central authorities to a broad dialogue that would support the achievement of the common priority of developing the regions, the entire country, and improving people’s quality of life.
“The government’s goal is to support the social, economic and cultural development of the autonomous region through concrete results – investments, jobs, infrastructure, better education and the preservation of local traditions. Only through cooperation, dialogue and mutual respect, will we be able to ensure the sustainable development of the region and the country,” the official said.
The participants in the working meeting in Comrat discussed the situation in the region and the problems faced by local public authorities. The dialogue focused on regulating relations between central public authorities and the ones of UTA Gagauzia, implementing approved infrastructure projects, applying sanctions for infringements of the environmental legislation, combating illegal agricultural processing practices, as well as other topics of interest.
At the same time, the importance of ensuring a clear, transparent and fair electoral process in the region was underlined, so that elections are free and fair and the results are credible. “The main goal is to eliminate electoral corruption. In the long term, this will create the premises for a new political class in the region, with competent specialists focused on raising the standard of living in local communities,” added Alexandru Iacub.
Working meetings involving representatives of the government and local authorities from UTA Gagauzia will continue and will be held quarterly.
