
US Congress delegation visits Moldovan Parliament
Deputy Speaker Doina Gherman met with a delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives, which was on a fact-collecting visit to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The delegation was led by Mike Platt, Staff Director of the Committee on House Administration.
The dialogue focused on current issues for the Republic of Moldova, including the organization and integrity of parliamentary elections, prevention of foreign interference, joining the European Union, as well as cooperation in the security and defense. On the parliamentary dimension, the parties discussed the modernization of legislative processes, the exchange of best practices, and the development of joint training programs for MPs and officials.
In her message, Gherman expressed gratitude to the United States for the constant support provided to the Republic of Moldova in various fields, including the development of the wine industry, as well as investments in infrastructure, energy, education and local businesses.
Members of the U.S. delegation also met with Secretary General of the Parliament Igor Talmazan, along with a group of the parliamentary institution's officials. Discussions focused on topics related to the organization and conduct of the legislative process, the manner of involving officials in supporting deputies, including technical issues, cooperation with civil society, decision-making transparency, etc. In conclusion, the delegation participated in a guided tour of the plenary session hall, where they were presented with the conduct of deputies' activities and the measures taken for the modernization of the institution.
