Moldova's energy regulatory agency says Moldovagaz company to deliver natural gas to Transnistrian region till late March 2026

The Moldovagaz company will be in charge of supplying natural gas to the Transnistrian region till March 31, 2026. The decision today was taken by the Board of Directors of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE).

According to ANRE, the decision follows the cessation of the supply license held by the Moldovagaz stock company as of September 1, and is temporary and transitional in nature, proposed according to the national legislation by the Ministry of Energy and coordinated with the Reintegration Policies Bureau.

‘’The measure aims to ensure the continuity of gas deliveries to consumers in the Transnistrian region, avoiding interruptions during a critical period – the cold season,’’ announced ANRE.

Thus, through today's designation, the company will be able to continue purchasing natural gas from the wholesale market of Moldova, including through the trading platform managed by 'Romanian Commodities Exchange (Romanian Commodities Exchange) East Ltd, but exclusively for the needs of the Transnistrian region, specified ANRE.

At the same time, the Moldovagaz stock company is obligated to create enough gas reserves, in order to cover at least 15 per cent of the annual average consumption of household consumers, as well as enterprises and institutions providing essential social services in the region: by September 30 – at least 50 per cent; by October 31 – 100 per cent.

ANRE also said that it would constantly monitor how Moldovagaz sock company complies with the obligations arising from its status as a designated entity. In case of non-compliance, the authority has at its disposal accountability mechanisms, including financial penalties and the withdrawal of this status, at the proposal of the Ministry of Energy.

In early August, ANRE approved the decision to withdraw the license issued to Moldovagaz stock company for natural gas supply activity, following the expiration of the term granted and non-fulfillment of the requirements regarding functional, decision-making and legal separation from other activities in the sector.
