MPs held moment of silence in memory of victims of 7 April 2009
MPs today held a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the 7 April 2009 events at the beginning of the Parliament’s plenary sitting.
The initiative came from Speaker Igor Grosu on the 17th anniversary of the protests in the Great National Assembly Square. The official highlighted the courage of the young people who took to the streets then to defend democratic values and the right to freedom.
“Those young people had the courage to say no to fear and yes to freedom. They came out to defend the right to live in a free country, where the vote counts and the state respects its citizens,” Grosu said.
The Speaker noted that 17 years after those events, not all questions have been answered and justice has not been fully served. At the same time, he emphasized that April 7 remains a defining moment for the democratic path of the Republic of Moldova.
In this context, MPs held a moment of silence in memory of the victims.
