European Parliament President: We stand united in support of Moldova and European path
President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola delivered a strong message of support for Moldova, emphasizing that its future is within the European Union and the European community's support remains unwavering. Her statements preceded the speech given by President of Moldova Maia Sandu in front of MEPs.
“We share the values of democracy, peace and the rule of law. We are increasing investments in Moldova's future through the Moldova Mechanism and look forward to opening Moldova's accession negotiations,” Metsola said.
In her speech, the official drew attention to the current challenges facing Europe.
“We are living through difficult times in Europe. Freedoms we thought were secured are being challenged. Public trust in democracy is declining, and Russia’s war continues in Ukraine. But Europe is resilient, and I know that together we will overcome this crisis. We will be stronger and more united,” Metsola said.
She also recalled the historic meeting of European leaders in Chișinău a few weeks ago, seen as a clear evidence of unity and solidarity.
“European leaders gathered in Chișinău and reaffirmed Europe's unwavering support for Moldova's European future. Today we stand with you once again, dear President Maia Sandu. We stand united in support of Moldova and its European path,” mentioned the President of the European Parliament.
The European Parliament will also examine a resolution in support of Moldova.
