The speech by President Maia Sandu has had a significant impact at the European level, Iulian Groza, director of the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE), told MOLDPRES. The expert emphasized that the message highlighted the position of Moldova in the fight for democracy and the need of European Union support.

"The president's speech was quite powerful, with multiple messages conveyed to both European MPs and European citizens. It provided more arguments and broad context related to European Union’s values, how the EU was built, and the connection with the states through which Moldova is navigating today, underlining the need for European support for the country," Groza said.

Iulian Groza noted that Moldova was already on the European agenda and that the support provided by European leaders in recent weeks highlighted the importance of the country's European path.

"The president's speech at the European Parliament, at an important moment, was certainly heard by the leaders, but, in my opinion, the most important aspect is that the messages reached European citizens. It is possible that the entire international media will write about this speech, the messages conveyed, and the decision that the European Parliament is due to adopt regarding the situation in Moldova," the expert concluded.

President Maia Sandu today delivered a speech in the plenary session of the European Parliament, highlighting the challenges faced by Moldova, the importance of European support and the need to strengthen democracy in the country, in a tense regional context marked by the war in Ukraine and the influence of the Russian Federation. The speech took place in front of the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and the institution's members, serving as a call for European solidarity and support to protect democracy in Moldova.
