Moldova moves closer to European integration
The Republic of Moldova advances in a disciplined and focused manner on the European integration path. This is the national goal that will ensure the country's security and prosperity. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made the statement during an interview with journalist Dmytro Gordon.
“European integration is the development vector that will ensure peace, security, and prosperity. Therefore, we are advancing in a disciplined and focused manner in this direction. The EU recently approved an investment package worth 1.9 billion euros for the Republic of Moldova, which will be used to modernize infrastructure and develop the economy,” said Recean.
The Prime Minister reiterated that European integration is the only way for the development of the Republic of Moldova and that this vector was decided by the country's citizens, despite the propaganda and misinformation attempts promoted by Russia's supporters.
“The Republic of Moldova has decided it wants to become a member state of the European Union. Russia tells us that we are not allowed and we need to stay here. Such an approach is incomprehensible to us. (...) We observe the massive support of Moldovans for European integration. Moldovans work in Spain, Italy, France, Germany, they already understand where there is peace and order, where laws work, where there is democracy and where you will not be imprisoned for criticizing the power. Past elections have shown that Moldova firmly stands on its position,” stated Recean.
Recean reaffirmed the Moldovan authorities' commitment to preparing the country for EU accession by 2028, recalling in the context that the Republic of Moldova has completed the screening for more than half of the chapters of the EU acquis and the negotiation process is advancing at a steady pace.
“I would be glad to know that I am part of the generation that brought Moldova into the EU,” he said.
The Republic of Moldova submitted its application for European Union membership on 3 March 2022, and on 23 June 2022, our country obtained candidate status for EU membership. Last summer, the European Council decided the official opening of accession negotiations to the EU.
