Romanian acting PM in Chisinau: “On these days, Romania is signing all its contracts to equip the army with new technology”
Acting Prime Minister of Romania Ilie Bolojan, at a today’s an event organized in Chisinau, said that Romania was strengthening its defense capabilities and had requested from its allies the transfer of anti-drone defense systems, radar systems, and anti-aircraft systems, so that it can ensure the security of citizens on the eastern flank.
The Romanian official referred to the war in Ukraine and the recent incidents in Galati, emphasizing that the safety of the population stayed essential.
“I'm in Chișinău, even though this is a day when, last night, we did not receive good news. For us, those who hold public office, two things are important in relation to our citizens: ensuring their safety and creating conditions for prosperity. And you have seen what irresponsible actions mean, such as the war in Ukraine, following Russia's aggression, in which innocent people, people who just want to live their lives, are attacked, injured, waking up with drones above apartment blocks and with their lives affected. What we must do during this difficult period is to create conditions for the safety of our citizens. On these days, Romania is signing all its contracts to equip the army with new technology, because without new technology, without equipment adapted to how wars have evolved in recent years, you cannot ensure the safety of citizens,” Bolojan said.
In the context, the Bucharest official stressed that the states on the eastern flank must strengthen their defense through investments and international military cooperation.
“Given that you have neighbors in the East such as Russia, whom you cannot rely on, the solution is, first of all, to defend ourselves and to create conditions, so that our citizens can live in safety. I believe this is what we must pursue above all,” Bolojan said.
He specified that Romania had already initiated measures to modernize the army and had requested additional support from its allies.
“Apart from signing these contracts, which will be fulfilled over the next months and in the coming years, we have asked our allies for transfers of anti-drone defense systems, radar systems and anti-aircraft systems, so that we can ensure, on the eastern flank, the safety of our citizens,” Ilie Bolojan concluded.
