Moldovan Central Electoral Commission: May 29 last day of electoral campaigning before second round of new local elections

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) said that today, May 29, was is the last day on which electoral campaigning is allowed for the second round of the new local elections scheduled for May 31, 2026.

According to the institution, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Code, electoral campaigning will be prohibited both on election day and on the day preceding the ballot. On this period, candidates will not be allowed to take part in electoral television or radio programmes.

The CEC specified that local public authorities and advertising distributors were obliged to remove electoral advertising materials, including posters placed in specially designated locations. At the same time, the institution noted that the ban did not apply to information already published on the internet.

Also, electoral contenders will not be allowed to make financial transfers to or from accounts marked Electoral Fund. The Central Electoral Commission warned that violating the rules on the prohibition of electoral campaigning represents an administrative offence and may be sanctioned under Article 52 of the Contravention Code. Thus, natural people risk fines between 40 and 60 conventional units, while legal entities - between 100 and 150 conventional units.

The second round of the new local elections for the position of mayor will take place in Rusestii Noi, Orhei and Taraclia.
