Moldovan deputy PM for European integration attends informal meeting of General Affairs Council
Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov today participated in an informal meeting of the General Affairs Council, alongside the ministers for European affairs from the European Union member states and candidate countries. The discussions focused on the support that member states can provide to candidate countries in the accession preparation process.
“We discussed how member states can help candidate countries prepare for accession, the challenges they face and the assistance they need, because the EU is about solidarity and cooperation,” Cristina Gherasimov said.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the official had more bilateral meetings, including with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and her counterparts from Denmark, the Czech Republic, Greece, France, Austria, Malta, Sweden, Belgium and Spain. The discussions focused on Moldova’s situation in the EU accession negotiation process and its goals for the coming months.“We have a great deal of work to do at home this autumn, but we know that every reform we complete brings us closer to our goal – Moldova’s accession to the European Union,” Cristina Gherasimov stressed.
The informal meeting of the General Affairs Council takes place in Dublin on September 3-4 and is being hosted by Ireland, the country currently holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union. The meeting is attended by ministers from the member states, representatives of candidate and potential candidate countries, as well as officials from the European institutions. One of the working sessions is dedicated to EU enlargement and gives candidate countries the opportunity to discuss accession preparations with the member states.
