Moldovan parliament speaker responds to Ilan Shor's statements in Moscow

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu responds to the statements made by fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor during the Victory bloc’s congress held in Moscow on July 6. The speaker describes Shor's statements as ‘’quite serious’’ and warns that they ‘’will not remain just declarations.’’

‘’These are very serious statements, and our institutions will do their job as the law dictates, especially since we are dealing with someone convicted under legal provisions concerning high treason,’’ said Igor Grosu.

According to the official, the law enforcement authorities—including the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), the Prosecutor's Office, the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), and specialized prosecutor's offices—will analyze the circumstances of these statements, which could represent elements undermining the national sovereignty.

The government had a similar reaction, labeling the Moscow event as ‘’high treason.’’ The government's spokesperson, Daniel Voda, said that ‘’the statements made there are not just simple opinions, but part of a scenario undermining the state and citizens of Moldova.’’

At the same time, the interior minister emphasized that Shor's statements could constitute a ‘’breach of sovereignty’’.

In Moscow, Ilan Shor said that ‘’the only salvation for Moldova is union with the Russian Federation’’ and argued that the country could develop in alliance with Russia ‘’without losing its sovereignty.’’

Ilan Shor got a final sentence of 15 years in prison in the 'bank fraud' case, and his political formation, the Victory bloc, was not allowed to participate in the electoral race for the elections held in autumn 2024 year, according to a decision by the Central Election Commission.
