Moldovan president, European officials in Strasbourg discuss support for Moldova's EU accession, defending democracy

President Maia Sandu, during her visit to Strasbourg, has met European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and leaders of European political groups: the European People's Party group, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats group, the Renew Europe group, the European Conservatives and Reformists group, and the Greens group.

The head of state discussed the need for continued strong support on behalf of the EU’s legislative body or the EU accession path, including economic support for Moldova. Maia Sandu also welcomed the decision to open a European Parliament liaison office in Chisinau.

At the discussions, the Moldovan president emphasized the country's progress on the European path, the importance of maintaining the democratic course and ensuring the integrity of elections, as well as the necessity of a common response to current security challenges. The head of state stressed that Moldova can ensure peace and security through active diplomacy based on strong relations with its partners and neighbours.
