Moldova's Constitutional Court validates presidential elections, mandate got by Maia Sandu
Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Constitutional Court (CC) today confirmed the results of the presidential elections and validated the mandate of Moldova’s President got by Maia Sandu.
„The Constitutional Court has decided the confirmation of the results of the elections from 3 November 2024 and the validation of the election of Maia Sandu to the office of president of Moldova. The present ruling is final and cannot be subjected to any appeal, enters into force on the date of adoption and is published in the Official Journal,’’ CC President Domnica Manole said.
At the runoff presidential elections from 3 November this year, Maia Sandu got 930,139 votes, while her counter-candidate, Alexandr Stoianoglo – 750,430 votes. Thus, Maia Sandu will become the first president elected by the people who managed to get two mandates.
Under the legislation, the candidate whose election was validated is to take the oath before the Parliament and the Constitutional Court 45 days following the elections at the latest.
The mandate of Moldova’s president lasts four years and is exercised starting the date of taking the oath. The head of state exercises his/her mandate till the swearing in office of the newly elected president.
