Alegeri parlamentare 2025

Over 590,000 voters cast ballots by 12:00 PM

Over 590,000 voters have cast their ballots by 12:00 PM. The electoral process is proceeding normally, without major incidents, although queues have formed at some polling stations abroad. This information was presented today by President of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Angelica Caraman, during a briefing in which updates on the electoral process were announced.

According to the CEC leadership, within the country, the most active constituency is Rezina, where over 22% of voters have participated. Conversely, low turnout is recorded in the electoral constituency Briceni, with about 15% voter participation. In the municipality of Chișinău, the voter turnout is 20%.

'As of 12:00 PM, all polling stations established in Europe and Asia are operational. In the coming hours, polling stations in the United States and Canada will open sequentially. Currently, there are congestions at some polling stations abroad: Brussels, Belgium; Bucharest, Romania; Moscow, Russia; Venice, Italy; and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, France. So far, 60,000 voters have shown up at the polls outside the country,' said Caraman.

In the 12 polling stations established for citizens from localities on the left bank of the Dniester River, about 5,000 voters have cast their ballots.

'The Reintegration Policy Office has informed that the situation in the Security Zone remains calm, stable, and without essential changes. The flow of people and means of transport through internal customs posts is taking place regularly, and the situation on the ground is effectively monitored and managed by the competent authorities. The CEC reiterates the importance of maintaining public calm and urges citizens to keep calm and maintain continuous communication with the authorized national authorities,' stated Caraman.

The electoral authority has also been notified of several cases where access for some observers at certain polling stations was obstructed.

'We note that only observers accredited by the electoral bodies have access to polling stations. They can remain inside the polling station throughout the election day, from the opening of the polls to the counting of the ballots and the totaling of the results. If any misunderstandings or registration delays occur, they are addressed promptly. Each specific case can be reported to the electoral bodies for verification,' explained the CEC leadership.

Additionally, since the beginning of the day, 31 cases of violations or incidents affecting the electoral process have been recorded: photographing the ballot - 16 cases; prohibited electoral agitation - 2 cases; reasonable suspicion of voter bribery - 1 case; unauthorized electoral display - 1 case; organized transportation of voters - 1 case; other incidents - 6 cases.

The CEC reiterated that voters unable to reach the polling station can request a mobile ballot box until 2:00 PM. Requests can be made at the electoral bureau of the polling station, accompanied by a medical certificate.

Citizens of the Republic of Moldova are expected at the polls today to elect representatives in the future Parliament. Polling stations opened at 7:00 AM and will close at 9:00 PM.
