Moldovan Central Electoral Commission: about 1.5 million citizens or 49 percent of electors vote till 19:00

The voter turnout stood at about 49 percent of eligible voters by 19:00, with about 1.5 million citizens casting their votes.

For comparison, at the early parliamentary elections on July 11, 2021, by 19:00, 1.3 million citizens or 43 per cent of electors voted; at the same time, at the runoff   presidential elections in 2024, the turnout at this hour was over 1.6 million voters or 52.4 per cent.

According to the CEC, just as in other years, women are the most active with a turnout of 54 per cent. In terms of age category, the most active voters were the ones aged between 36 and 45 years – 23 per cent, followed by those aged between 46 and 55 years - over 17.8 percent.

Abroad, by this hour, over 243,000 Moldovan citizens voted.

For comparison, at the 2021 parliamentary elections, a total of 212,434 voters participated at the polling stations opened abroad, while at the 2019 legislative elections, 76,583 citizens participated. Thus, a few hours before the closing of polls, 243,000 voters have already participated in today's parliamentary elections.

According to CEC information, the most active voting takes place in polling stations opened in Romania, in Bucharest, where over 2,500 voters cast their ballots, Italy (Verona) - over 2,300 voters, Italy (Parma and Modena) - over 2,200. A turnout of up to 2,100 voters was recorded at the polling stations in Moscow, Russia, Iasi (Romania), Vicenza, Treviso, Rome (Italy) each.

The polling stations in China, India and Kazakhstan have already been closed. At 20:00 (Moldova time), the polling stations in the United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan will be closed.

According to the CEC, all bomb threats at polling stations abroad have turned out to be false. Voting activities have resumed and polling stations are operating normally.

Voters can exercise their right to vote till 21:00, local time. The electoral bureau can decide on an extension of up to 2 hours, in order to allow voters waiting in queue at the concerned polling station to exercise their rights.
