
Parliament appoints former economy minister as member of Supervisory Board of National Bank of Moldova
The parliament today appointed the former economy minister, Dumitru Alaiba, as a member of the Supervisory Board of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM). The decision was adopted with 56 votes at a proposal by the parliamentary commission for economy, budget and finance.
Dumitru Alaiba has experience in the economic and financial field. He has served as Minister of Economy, a member of the Financial Stability Committee, lawmaker and subsequently the head of the relevant parliamentary commission. Alaiba also worked in the past as an advisor to the prime minister.
The BNM Supervisory Board is made up of seven members, who have a mandate of seven years. According to the National Bank Law, the Supervisory Board is in charge of organizing an efficient system of independent public oversight of the National Bank's activities. Among the powers, there are: approving the annual report and annual financial statements, adopting, verifying and evaluating the internal control system standards.
