Eighty five villages to benefit from safe water; Moldova speeds up investments in basic infrastructure

The parliament of Moldova today ratified the Loan Agreement between the governments of Moldova and Kingdom of Belgium, amounting to 12 million euros, for the implementation of the Decentralized Potable Water Supply Project. The project involves the setting of 85 BOSAQ water kiosks in rural communities, which will benefit over 55,000 citizens.

The BOSAQ kiosks are modern water treatment systems, with a capacity of 500 liters per hour, complying with European Union standards and providing protection against contamination. The loan will be repaid over 30 years, with a grace period of 10 years, during which no interest will be charged.

Today, the legislature also voted another draft, which declares the infrastructure development works under the Water Supply and Sanitation Security in Moldova Project, valued at approximately 44.1 million euros, as of national public utility. The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development till January 2027 and is funded through a loan from the International Development Association and a grant from the Austrian Development Agency.

Planned interventions include the rehabilitation of the water network in the Cahul district, connecting the city of Vulcanesti, building a regional system in the Rascani district and extending the sewage network and treatment plant in the city of Soroca.

According to the National Statistics Bureau, about 20 per cent of the rural population and 10 per cent of the urban population do not have reliable access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation services.
