Moldovan PM visits high-performance farm in Causeni

Chisinau, July 10 /MOLDPRES/ - Brothers Dumitru and Mihai Bocancea from the locality of Taraclia, south-eastern Causeni district, manage an agricultural farm of over 3200 hectares, adapted to new climate challenges. The farm uses renewable energy, an irrigation system and applies modern technologies to preserve soil moisture.

“There is no magic solution to all problems. We are helped by the state, modern water conservation techniques and efficient fertilization ways,” said Mihai Bocancea.

According to him, the severe drought in 2022 required seeking government’s and external support, including from Romania. These measures allowed for reducing financial pressure and maintaining payments to shareholders and employees.

The farmers say that one of the biggest challenges was ensuring the market for their products.

“Presently, at a level of 80 per cent, we no longer have the problem of selling our production. The agriculture of Moldova is moving in the right direction,” Bocancea specified.

The farm was recently visited by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who discussed with the farmers the state support provided and the need for investments in sustainable agriculture.

“We discussed how we can speed up the development of the agricultural sector through investments in high-value agriculture,” said the PM.

On their lands, the Bocancea brothers cultivate wheat, rapeseed, corn, sunflowers, and fruit trees.

The drought of 2022 severely impacted the agriculture of Moldova and was one of the most severe in the region, also affecting Romania, Ukraine, Hungary and Serbia.
