Moldovan Speaker: Baltic States - clear example that EU accession brings concrete results for citizens

The Baltic States are a clear example that accession to the European Union brings concrete results for citizens. For the Republic of Moldova, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are true friends and reliable partners who firmly support us on our European path and share their experience with us. Speaker Igor Grosu made the statements at today's inaugural meeting of the spring session of the parliament, attended by the Speakers of the Parliaments of the Baltic States, who are on a visit to Chișinău.

Igor Grosu noted that the Baltic States became EU members 20 years ago and this has completely transformed their development path.

“Just over 20 years ago, in 2004, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania became members of the great European family. During this time, these states have undergone profound transformations. Their economies have grown significantly, the standard of living has improved, and state institutions have become stronger and more efficient. Today, the Baltic States are a clear example that accession to the European Union brings concrete results for citizens. For the Republic of Moldova, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are true friends and reliable partners. They firmly support us on our European path and share their experience with us. We are grateful for this friendship and for their constant support,” stated Igor Grosu.

The Speaker added that Chișinău authorities have a clear and strong mandate from the citizens to lead the Republic of Moldova into the European Union.

“For our part, we have a clear and strong mandate from the citizens to lead the Republic of Moldova into the European Union. The Parliament, the deputies of this supreme body have an essential role in this process: to adopt the necessary reforms, to consolidate democracy and to prepare the country for accession,” Grosu said.

The parliament met today in the inaugural sitting of the spring session. The Speakers of the Parliaments of the Baltic States, who are visiting Chișinău, will deliver speeches.

President of the Riigikogu of the Republic of Estonia Lauri Hussar, Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Daiga Mieriņa and Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Juozas Olekas are paying a visit to the Republic of Moldova on 2 - 4 February at the invitation of Grosu.
