Moldovan president says drone detected in southern region serious violation of country's airspace, threat to citizens

President Maia Sandu today condemned the incident in the village of Tudora, south-eastern Stefan Voda district, where a drone carrying an explosive payload was discovered. The head of state stressed that this is “a serious violation of our airspace and a threat to our citizens.”

According to the president, “Russia is repeatedly violating our country’s sovereignty and endangering the lives of our people.”

“A Russian drone, found today in the village of Tudora, was assessed as transporting explosives. This is a serious violation of our airspace and a threat to our citizens. Russia is repeatedly violating our sovereignty and endangering the lives of our people,” Maia Sandu wrote on platform X.

More drone fragments today morning were discovered in the village of Tudora, Stefan Voda district, approximately 500 meters from the state border line. The aircraft was found by local residents. The detected drone is active and contains an explosive device. Intervention teams are to carry out a controlled detonation on site.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry also reacted to the incident, stating that it “strongly condemns incidents that endanger the security of Moldova’s citizens.” The institution underlined that Moldova reaffirmed the importance of respecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
