Parliament ratified agreement with Ukraine on repatriation of unaccompanied children
MPs today ratified the bilateral Agreement with Ukraine on the repatriation of unaccompanied children and those left without parental care. The document, signed in Kyiv on 10 February 2026, establishes the legislative and institutional framework for cooperation between the two countries.
The Agreement enables authorities to provide swift and effective assistance to children at risk, ensuring their repatriation to their habitual residence. It also provides for the coverage of repatriation costs and the provision of social and legal support.
The document also regulates the exchange of information between authorities for the efficient management of such cases.
The Agreement complies with international treaties on the rights of the child, including the UN Convention, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.
Official statistics show that from 2007 to the present, the Republic of Moldova has repatriated 516 children from various countries, most of them minors left without parental care.
