Moldova expands cooperation with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development to strengthen institutions

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi today had a meeting with Deputy Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), František Ružička, on a visit to Chisinau. The discussions focused on deepening the dialogue between Moldova and the OECD, which has recorded an upward dynamic in recent years.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, during the meeting, the officials underlined the importance of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in 2023 and of the 2024–2027 Moldova–OECD Action Plan, launched following the meeting between President Maia Sandu and OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann, as well as their contribution to implementing reforms and strengthening institutional capacities.

The Moldovan diplomacy head appreciated the OECD’s constant support in key areas, such as the business environment, tax policies, digitalization, the fight against corruption, justice and public administration. The official reiterated that expanding the cooperation portfolio with the OECD was a priority and emphasized the country’s wish to become more actively involved in the organization’s committees and forums.

For his part, František Ružička reconfirmed the OECD’s readiness to continue its support for promoting structural reforms, strengthening institutions and bringing Moldova closer to the organization’s standards and best practices.

The meeting took place in the context of the OECD official’s participation in the High-Level Conference on Social Rights, The European Social Charter, organized within the framework of Moldova’s Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Also today, the two officials took part in the launch of the OECD study titled,  Creating Functional Energy Markets in Moldova.
