MEP: Moldova - top performer in implementing reforms among European Union candidate countries

The Republic of Moldova is a top performer in implementing reforms among the European Union candidate countries. This is stated by the European Commission, which yesterday disbursed almost 200 million euros to the Republic of Moldova. MEP Siegfried Mureșan made the statements following a meeting in Brussels with Speaker Igor Grosu.

Grosu highlighted the constant support provided by European partners, especially by Romanian Members of the European Parliament, with whom he had a meeting at the European Parliament.

“Moldova has reliable friends in the European Parliament, and the support of our colleagues from Romania is special. Romania remains the most important advocate of the Republic of Moldova in the European Union – a partner we know we can rely on,” Grosu said.

The Speaker noted that this morning, he held discussions with Romanian MEPs Siegfried Mureșan, Victor Negrescu, Nicolae Ștefănuță, Eugen Tomac, Dan Barna and Cristian Terheș. The talks focused on the next steps in the accession process, maintaining the pace of reforms, and consolidating the necessary political support.

Mureșan underlined the progress made by the Republic of Moldova in implementing reforms, noting that the financial support granted by the European Union comes as a result of fulfilling 24 reforms.

“This is possible because the Republic of Moldova has met the necessary conditions for advancing the negotiations,” Mureșan stated.

At the same time, the official noted that, on the same day, the Council of the European Union gave the green light for opening the technical accession negotiations on all six clusters.

The MEP reiterated that the support from the European Union must increase as the accession process accelerates, emphasizing that the European Parliament will continue to support Chișinău authorities in achieving the objectives.
