VIDEO // Moldovan parliament speaker says once again convinced that Moldova has necessary support on path toward great European family

At the European Conference of Speakers of Parliament from the Council of Europe member states, held in Rome these days, I became convinced once again that Moldova has the necessary support on its path toward the great European family. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has made statements to this effect, who presented the conclusions of the event.

The participants in the conference discussed ways to combat interference with democratic processes and disinformation, as well as strengthening cooperation and mutual support among states.

The official emphasized that, on the sidelines of the conference, he had had  meetings with his counterparts from Turkey and Italy, with whom he discussed the regional elections due on November 15 and the social protection of Moldovan citizens working in Italy.

“We had very good bilateral discussions. I began with a meeting with the President of the Turkish Parliament. We exchanged opinions and I invited him to delegate observers to the elections in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia on November 15. I continued discussions with the President of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies, whom I thanked for the Social Protection Agreement, unanimously approved, which allows Moldovans working here to benefit from a pension by combining their years of employment,” said Igor Grosu.

The parliament speaker discussed with his counterparts from France and Norway the social rights of Moldovan citizens, the recognition of driving licences, and the identification of resources needed to support vulnerable consumers during the cold season.

“I spoke with the President of the French National Assembly, who assured us that the Social Protection Agreement will be adopted by the French Senate as soon as possible. I also thanked her for the Agreement on the recognition of driving licences. I cannot fail to mention my conversation with my friend, the President of the Norwegian Parliament, a good friend of Moldova, who asked me directly about the situation regarding energy security. We discussed how we can find resources this winter, as well to help the most vulnerable consumers,” the official added.

Igor Grosu on October 15–16 participated in the European Conference of Speakers of Parliament from the member states of the Council of Europe. The speaker spoke during the panel dedicated to hybrid threats to resilient democracies, presenting the experience of Moldova in combating foreign interference and defending democratic processes.

During his visit, the official also met Moldovan businesspeople settled in various regions of Italy. The discussions focused on the entrepreneurs’ experience, business development in a competitive environment and opportunities to make Moldova more attractive to investors.
