Moldovan parliament speaker in Rome has meetings with counterparts from Norway, Lithuania, Armenia
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu in Rome has had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the Kingdom of Norway, Lithuania and Armenia. The discussions focused on opportunities to strengthen the bilateral relations in more key sectors.
At the meeting with Masud Gharahkhani, President of the Storting of the Kingdom of Norway, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu discussed the parliamentary agenda and the reforms implemented. The parliament speaker expressed his gratitude for the support provided by Norway to Moldova. Over the past four years, Norway has provided approximately 190 million euros in assistance, invested in strengthening energy security, state institutions and the resilience of the country during an especially difficult period marked by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. In the context, the officials discussed the possibility of continuing the support in 2027, so that vulnerable families can heat their homes and be protected from the burden of high costs.
The agenda also included a meeting with Juozas Olekas, President of Lithuania’s Seimas (parliament). The parliament speaker thanked him for the support provided to the country’s European path and emphasized that Moldova continued to rely on this support, particularly during Lithuania’s presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027. In the context, Igor Grosu reaffirmed his firm commitment to implementing the reforms’ agenda, so that Moldova can open all negotiating chapter clusters by the end of the 2026 year. “We will continue to fulfill our commitments, because reforms mean, above all, better institutions and a more dignified life for citizens. This is the meaning of our European path,” said the parliament speaker.
The Moldovan speaker also discussed with his Armenian counterpart, Ruben Rubinyan, opportunities to strengthen relations between Moldova and Armenia and to develop parliamentary cooperation. “We are pleased with the steps Armenia is taking on its European path and are open to sharing our experience. We agreed to maintain close dialogue and work together to bring our countries closer,” Igor Grosu emphasized.
On October 15–16, Igor Grosu was in Rome, where he participated in the European Conference of Speakers of Parliament of the Council of Europe member states.
