National, international observers can apply for accreditation for regional elections due in Moldova till November 8

Applications for the accreditation of national and international observers for the elections to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia and for the position of Governor (Bashkan) of Gagauzia may be submitted until November 8, 2026.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), during the regional elections, the Central Electoral Council of Gagauzia accredits national observers, while the Commission accredits international observers and, upon request, confirms their interpreters.

“Applications for the accreditation of national observers are examined within no more than 5 days after the submission of the complete file, and those of international observers - within no more than 10 days, but no later than the day preceding election day,” the CEC emphasized.

The electoral authority announces that the observer status is incompatible with the one of: a candidate for an elected position; treasurer of a political party, electoral contestant, or initiative group; an electoral official carrying out activities at the elections; a representative or trusted person of an electoral contestant; leader or member of an initiative group; leader of a religious denomination or a member of its clergy; or an interview operator authorized to conduct exit polls.

The elections for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia will take place on November 15, 2026, on the same day as the elections for the position of Governor of Gagauzia. The electoral campaign will start on October 16.
