Voters to benefit from modern equipment in autumn elections

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) received today a set of modern equipment designed to support the electoral process in the Republic of Moldova. The donation worth over 200,000 USD was provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with financial support from Norway, Sweden, Canada and Denmark.

According to the CEC, over 110,000 dollars were allocated for the purchase of ultra-compact scanners for verifying passports and identity cards. They will speed up the voter identification process in polling stations, contributing to the efficiency of checks in electoral lists and in the CEC's information system.

In total, the CEC received: 10,000 voting stamps; 100,000 seals; 700 ballot boxes; 10,000 ink refills for stamps; 2,000 voting booths adapted for people with special needs; 1,200 mobile ballot boxes.

According to officials present at the event – representatives of the embassies of the four donor countries, the UNDP, and the Public Services Agency – the donation directly contributes to modernizing electoral logistics and enhancing voting security. Additionally, the new equipment will improve voting access, including for citizens in isolated areas or the diaspora.

Present at the event, CEC President Angelica Caraman expressed gratitude to the partners.

“This event is a reaffirmation of our shared commitment to a functional democracy and to respecting every citizen's right to participate in voting. We will use this equipment with maximum responsibility and efficiency,” stated the quoted source.

Also, the UNDP provided the Public Services Agency with seven sets of biometric registration equipment, worth 39,000 dollars. They will be used by mobile teams for documenting and issuing identity documents to Moldovans abroad, facilitating their participation in elections.
