Authorities issue warnings for residents amidst Yellow Code for rain in Moldova
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) and the State Hydrometeorological Service warn the population that, between October 7-8, 2025, a Yellow Code for abundant rain is in effect all over Moldova.
According to the relevant authorities, large amounts of precipitation are expected - between 15 and 49 liters per square meter, and locally it may reach up to 90 liters per square meter. Specialists warn that these rains may cause local flooding, sudden rises in small rivers’ levels and damaging of roads.
In the context, authorities urge the population to exercise maximum caution and observe the following safety recommendations: avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain; do not seek shelter under trees, poles, or electrical wires; do not park vehicles near trees or electrical networks; avoid crossing flooded areas, even if the water seems shallow;
Drivers are advised to reduce speed, maintain distance between vehicles, and avoid sudden braking. Owners of lakes and ponds should check their water drainage and evacuation systems.
“IGSU is closely monitoring the meteorological situation nationally and is prepared to rapidly intervene in emergencies,” representatives of the institution said.
Authorities reiterate that, in case of danger or exceptional situations, citizens are urged to immediately call the single emergency number 112.
Meteorologists have issued a Yellow Code for prolonged rain, valid on October 7 and 8, throughout the country. On this period, continuous rain is expected and the abundant precipitation may cause water accumulation in low-lying areas, increases in small rivers’ levels, hillside runoff and possible traffic difficulties.
