Moldovan citizens invited to planting
The citizens of the Republic of Moldova are invited today to the planting event that will take place in over 120 locations. In Geamăna, Anenii Noi, seedlings will be planted on an area of 30 hectares. In Geamăna, trees will also be planted by officials and MPs.
Minister of Environment Sergiu Lazarencu released a video this morning from Geamăna encouraging citizens to contribute to the expansion of afforested areas.
“Today, Moldova is planting. In every district of the country, there is at least one location where forests will be planted. The Ministry of Environment, together with Moldsilva aims to plant 3,500 hectares of forest this spring. I want to thank everyone who contributed to the afforestation campaign by promoting it. We have extraordinary interest. Over 2,000 people have already registered. Everything is ready in Geamăna. I would like to invite once again everyone who hasn’t decided yet to come plant,” the minister said.
During 2025, at least 7,000 hectares of forest are expected to be planted, similar to the targets set for 2024.
Within ten years, afforested areas will be expanded by around 150,000 hectares, both on new lands and on heavily degraded forest areas, publicly owned or, for the first time, on privately owned lands. These provisions are part of the National Program for the Expansion and Rehabilitation of Forests 2023 - 2032 proposed and initiated by President Maia Sandu.
“It is a program that will bring many benefits to the agricultural sector, where humidity is important, and it will also change the appearance of rural areas in the country,” according to the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
