Moldovan government promises maximum transparency in gas procurement
The government will analyze every serious additional option that could bring cheaper natural gas and better terms to Moldova—including longer-term contracts and alternative sources of supply. Government’s spokesperson Dumitru Ciorici has made statements to this effect. He assured that, once the discussions turn into concrete offers, the authorities would publicly present the results with maximum transparency.
“We will not remain passive, simply watching market charts. We will actively seek every serious additional option that could bring cheaper gas and better terms to Moldova—including longer-term contracts and alternative sources of supply,” said Dumitru Ciorici.
According to him, the authorities will analyze every option that is legal, secure, and economically advantageous for Moldova.
“Whether we are talking about American, Azerbaijani, Qatari, or Turkmen gas, we will analyze every option that is legal, secure and economically advantageous for Moldova. We will speak with governments, producers, traders and people who know this market and can open doors,” the government’s spokesperson added.
Dumitru Ciorici emphasized that the government’s main objectives were securing an advantageous final price for Moldova, supply security and the country’s energy independence.
He assured that, once the discussions turn into concrete offers, the government would publicly present the figures, terms and results with maximum transparency.
The government’s spokesperson stressed that Moldova consumes approximately 700–800 million cubic meters of gas annually on the right bank, and at today’s market prices, the bill could reach 600–700 million euros—money that is ultimately paid by citizens and companies of Moldova.
