DOC // Published in Official Journal: Higher pensions for seniors from 1 April 2026

Elderly people will receive higher pensions starting 1 April. Thus, pensions will be indexed by 6.84 percent and increased by a fixed amount of 51.33 lei. The Government decision providing for this measure was published today in the Official Journal.

The document stipulates that after indexation, the minimum old-age pension will be 3,264.66 lei, while the minimum old-age pension for persons who have completed a contribution period of at least 40 years will be 3,525.72 lei.

At the same time, the minimum disability pension will be 2,448 lei in the case of a severe disability, 2,285 lei in the case of a pronounced disability, and 1,632 lei in the case of a moderate disability.

The indexation coefficient is equal to the inflation rate at the end of the previous year, expressed by the increase in consumer prices in December of that year compared to the same month of the preceding year.

In addition, state social allowances will be recalculated, with their amounts ranging from 1,305.86 lei to 5,060.23 lei per month, depending on the beneficiary’s category.

The indexation and increase of pensions and social allowances will be carried out ex officio by the National Social Insurance House, without beneficiaries needing to submit any documents.

The estimated cost for indexing social benefits exceeds 2 billion lei, and for the fixed-amount increase is about 300 million lei.
