Moldova's acting Prosecutor General passes external evaluation

The Prosecutors’ Evaluation Commission has announced that it completed the procedure for assessing the ethical and financial integrity of acting Prosecutor General Alexandru Machidon.

According to the cited source, following the analysis of the collected materials and the answers provided by him, the members of the Commission concluded that the acting Prosecutor General met the integrity criteria set out in the legislation, and the decision on the passage of the external evaluation had been adopted unanimously.

The evaluation report was sent to the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP), which is to decide on the conclusions within 30 days.

Under the legal procedure, the report will be made public after the expiry of the time limit for challenging the CSP’s decision or within three days after any final ruling by the Supreme Court of Justice.

The Prosecutors’ Evaluation Commission has the mandate to verify the ethical and financial integrity of prosecutors, including the leadership of the Prosecutor General’s Office and of those from specialized prosecutor’s offices. The evaluation covers, among other things, professional conduct, avoidance of conflicts of interest and justification of assets.

Alexandru Machidon was appointed acting Prosecutor General of Moldova in late May 2025.
