VIDEO // Forest Generation campaign in Strășeni

The Ministry of Environment plans to afforest more than 7,000 hectares of land this year. The institution’s team, together with several young people and athletes, took part today in planting activities in Strășeni district.

Minister of Environment Gheorghe Hajder thanked everyone who, in recent weeks, has participated in the plantings and has chosen to be part of Forest Generation.

“Today, in Strășeni, we were joined by young people and athletes who understand that the future of the environment depends on our actions now. Together we planted acorns, laying the foundation for new forests. The afforestation campaign is in full swing, and our goal is another 7,000 hectares planted this year! With every action, we protect waters, forests, and the environment. We thank all those who choose to get actively involved,” said Gheorghe Hajder.

The “Forest Generation” afforestation campaign will continue over the next few weeks in various regions of the country. This spring, afforestation works are planned over an area of 3,000 hectares and the planting of more than 11 million seedlings grown in specialized nurseries. The action is part of the National Program for the Expansion and Rehabilitation of Forests. The program provides for the rehabilitation and afforestation of 145,000 hectares of land by 2032. In the first three years since the program was launched, more than 20,000 hectares have already been rehabilitated and afforested.

Currently, the average survival rate of the planted seedlings is about 70%, an indicator considered very good, given that the land designated for afforestation is often degraded or of low agricultural quality.

For 2026, the Government has allocated more than 300 million lei for works to expand forested areas and to modernize the equipment used in the forestry sector. The funding will allow planting, maintenance, and forest regeneration works to be carried out, as well as the development of the necessary infrastructure for the efficient management of the forest fund.
