The Republic of Moldova and the Czech Republic are strengthening their bilateral cooperation in the field of defense. The Ministers of Defence of the two countries, Anatolie Nosatîi and Jaromír Zůna discussed in Chisinau regional security, the modernization of the National Army, and new joint projects in the sector.

During the meeting, the officials addressed the current security situation, the impact of the war waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine on regional stability, as well as the strategic priorities of the defense sector.

The ministers also reviewed bilateral cooperation and the results of the Moldovan-Czech partnership aimed at modernizing the National Army and increasing the resilience of the Republic of Moldova to security challenges.

Anatolie Nosatîi appreciated the support provided by the Czech side in implementing the Professional Development Programme of the Defence Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI), as well as the assistance in the form of goods and equipment to make the training process of Moldovan soldiers more efficient.

The discussions also covered the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and the support offered by the Czech Republic for promoting and implementing defense projects through the European Peace Facility (EPF) and the DCBI package.

The two officials agreed to deepen the partnership through new projects designed to support reforms in the field of defense and the consolidation of national security.

On the occasion of the visit, the Bilateral Cooperation Plan was also signed, providing for joint training activities, exchange of expertise, and cooperation in the field of military science and memory.

The visit of the Czech delegation concluded with the laying of flowers at the monument dedicated to the Czechoslovak Heroes within the Cemetery of Heroes Memorial Complex in Chisinau, renovated with the financial support of the Government of the Czech Republic and inaugurated in November 2023.
