Moldova might have another 50-meter Olympic pool: talks held in Chisinau with president of European Aquatics Federation

Moldova could have another 50-meter Olympic swimming pool. This topic, along with other issues related to the development of aquatic sports, has been discussed by State Secretary responsible for sports at Education and Research Ministry (MEC) Sergiu Gurin and President of the European Aquatics Federation (European Aquatics) Antonio Silva, on his first official visit to Moldova.

According to the MEC, representatives of the European Aquatics Federation said that the continental body was willing to partially contribute to financing the construction of a new Olympic-size swimming pool in Moldova. The project would represent an essential step for the development of high-performance sport and would create the premises for organizing international competitions in the country.

Sergiu Gurin assured the leadership of the European Aquatics Federation that the MEC was making sustained efforts to popularize swimming in Moldova. He also expressing interest in the professional development of swimming coaches and specialists in aquatic sports.

Representatives of the specialized federation noted that they would provide support for organizing training and professional development programmes for specialists in the field. They will also contribute to holding seminars and training courses in  Moldova, facilitating access to modern methodologies and international training standards.

During the visit, the leadership of the European Aquatics Federation also familiarized themselves with the swimming infrastructure of Moldova, visiting more specialized schools.

Presently, the main and only 50-meter Olympic swimming pool of Moldova that meets international standards is located at the Chisinau Arena complex.
