The members of the Joint Control Commission met in Bender today.

The discussions focused on issues recently raised by Moldova’s delegation: unconditional access for journalists to the activities of the Commission and to the Security Zone, the free movement of citizens from both banks of the Dniester  River, and, in this context, the removal from the Security Zone of the illegal checkpoints of the Transnistrian security structures. Numerous infringements  committed by representatives of the Russian Federation and Tiraspol were also highlighted, including their defiance of the documents governing the peacekeeping mission.

The participants in the meeting failed to reach consensus on approving the appointment of two military observers on behalf of Moldova.

The discussions will continue next week.
