Two teams of students from Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF), passionate about physiology won first place in the European competition “EuRoPhyz Quiz 2026”. The event took place on May 8 and 9 at Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Nicolae Testemițanu USMF team was represented by medical students Bogdan Marandiuc, Alexandru Gaitur, Constantin Babuc, Igor Codreanu and Gabriel Cristea. The university’s second team – represented by Victor Dvornic, Dan Platon, Ionuț Pătrănică and Sandu Sîrbu – received an Honourable Mention.

This year’s edition had as Quiz Master Professor Hwee Ming Cheng, an internationally recognized figure in the field of physiology, initiator of Inter Medical School Physiology Quiz competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, now in its 22nd edition. His presence provided the contest with a direct link to the international format that inspired the EuRoPhyz Quiz.

The competition brought together 14 teams, made up of 62 students from different years of study, representing universities from Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Croatia. Its aim is to promote academic excellence and international collaboration in the field of physiology.

The event was organized by the Department of Physiology of Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, in collaboration with the Romanian Society of Physiology and the Medical Students’ Organization.
