Moldova's State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, national leader in SCImago 2026 rankings
The Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) of Moldova stays in first place at national level in the international SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2026, which assesses higher education and research institutions worldwide.
According to the published data, Nicolae Testemitanu USMF ranks 2903rd globally, climbing 288 places compared to the previous year, and 191st in Eastern Europe, thus consolidating its status as leader among Moldovan institutions included in the ranking.
In the field of medical profile universities, the institution is placed 2240th worldwide and 134th in Eastern Europe, registering significant progress compared to 2025.
The SCImago ranking analyzes three main dimensions: research, innovation and societal impact. In all these areas, the USMF is a national leader, and in terms of societal impact, the university has advanced by more than 1,500 positions globally.
Among the fields in which the university records the best results, there are public health, infectious diseases, pharmacology and medicine, thus confirming the institution’s international visibility and performance.
SCImago is one of the most prestigious international rankings, based on indicators referring to scientific performance, innovation and the online visibility of education and research institutions.
