Moldova to develop European Digital Identity Wallet - modern solution for citizens, companies to manage documents
Moldova will develop a European Digital Identity Wallet. It will allow citizens to stock and use, in electronic format, academic accreditations, qualification certificates and even connect to online platforms, without the need of multiple passwords. The new system will be developed with the support of the Digital Europe Programme.
The Digital Identity Wallet is a sure and convenient way, through which citizens and companies can authenticate their identity and manage digital documents.
„With European money, we will develop, along with EU partners, a Digital Identify Wallet. We will make the life easier for citizens and companies, providing a modern solution for managing documents. Diplomas, permits, certificates – you will have them all in one place. In EVO, in the Documents module, which will be extended. The authentication in the online platforms will be easier and safer, without the necessity of a lot of different passwords and without risks dealing with the loss or forging of documents,’’ Deputy Prime Minister, Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba said.
Moldova is among the few countries outside EU to implement the Digital Identity Wallet. This will be possible, after the country became member of the WE BUILD international consortium, along with Germany, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Romania, France, Belgium and Finland, etc. This consortium was selected by the European Commission, in order to participate in the Large Scale Pilot Project dedicated to the Digital Identity Wallet of the European Union (EUDI).
The participation in the consortium is the first project of Moldova’s government as beneficiary of the Digital Europe Programme. Thus, through the Electronic Governance Agency, Moldova will cooperate with over 200 partners from EU member states within the consortium: public administrations, academic sector and the private sector, in order to develop and test the future wallet. The works within the project start in September 2025 and will last 24 months.
