Government invests in energy efficiency for 15 schools of Moldova
Fifteen educational institutions of Moldova will benefit from renovation works, in order to enhance the energy efficiency. The cabinet of ministers has approved a draft decision on the signing of the grant agreement between Moldova and the Development Bank of the Council of Europe.
The grant, valued at five million euros, is meant for the renovation works of 15 educational institutions selected for modernization, according to the model schools concept. The works include full thermal insulation of the buildings, installation of automated temperature control systems and energy meters, replacement of conventional lighting with energy-efficient solutions and setting of solar and photovoltaic panels.
“We will continue to invest in education - it is a strategic necessity for Moldova,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
Through the project, school infrastructure will be modernized, and students, especially those in underserved rural communities and overcrowded urban schools, will benefit from better conditions for education. At the same time, the measures will contribute to reducing the consumption of thermal energy by up to 60 per cent and the consumption of electric energy by about 30 per cent.
Approximately 12,800 students and 800 teachers will benefit from the new conditions.
