Moldovan parliament speaker warns about boosting of Russian propaganda ahead of next autumn elections, urges people to stay vigilant
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu warns that propaganda and disinformation orchestrated by the Kremlin will boost in the lead-up to the next autumn parliamentary elections, aiming to destabilize Moldova.
“The next autumn elections have become an additional reason for Moscow to infiltrate lies, fake news and disinformation on a large scale. In these complicated times, my call is that we stay vigilant: verify sources, don’t be convinced by sensational headlines and take nothing as absolute truth without confronting it with facts. The Russian propaganda is a direct threat to the democracy and European path of Moldova,” said Grosu.
He urged citizens to be cautious about the information they receive, to verify sources and not to believe sensational headlines without confronting the content with reality.
According to the speaker, Russia and criminal groups use “two preferred tools” – dirty money and lies – which the authorities are committed to combat.
“We must care for our informational hygiene. When a piece of news shocks us, we should ask ourselves if it’s true and who the source is. We have managed to dismantle these lies so far and we will succeed in next autumn too,” added the parliament speaker.
