Patients from north Moldova district to benefit from minimally invasive surgeries

The Anatolie Prisacari District Hospital from Soroca has been equipped with a modern laparoscopic tower and a full set of endoscopic instruments and supplies, with a total value of 2.74 million lei. The donation was provided by the U.S. Government, through the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

According to the Ministry of Health, the new technology allows for laparoscopic surgical interventions, that reduce hospitalization time, speed up patients’ recovery, and decrease the risk of postoperative complications.

According to the hospital’s management, the equipment will improve access to modern, safe and efficient surgical services for both local residents and refugees.

"This advanced equipment will not only significantly enhance the Soroca District Hospital's ability to respond to critical medical emergencies among both Ukrainian refugees and the local population. It will also increase the overall efficiency of the hospital and reduce long-term costs, while improving working conditions for the dedicated medical staff," said the IOM Moldova’s chief of mission, Ester Ruiz de Azua.

Since February 2022, more than 180,000 displaced people have received vital support through IOM's emergency programmes. Ten key public health institutions across from Moldova were equipped with medical technology, supplies and essential life-saving equipment.

The donation was made possible as part of the project, Contribution to the Regional Response for Refugees from Ukraine, implemented by the International Organization for Migration in Moldova and funded by the U.S. Government.

In 2024, the Balti-based Republican Clinical Hospital also received a similar donation from the American Government.
