PHOTO // Moldova hosts Study in Europe events for first time
The Republic of Moldova is hosting for the first time Study in Europe events. The initiative marks an important step in aligning the national education system with the European Higher Education Area. It is organized by the European Commission in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) and the EU Delegation to Chișinău.
Experts and practitioners from the European Union, the Republic of Moldova and the Eastern Partnership countries took part in Study in Europe – EU Policy Event in Moldova 2026, dedicated to developments in European higher education in the quality assurance and evaluation.
Attending the event, Ludmila Pavlov, Deputy Secretary General of the MEC emphasized the importance of organizing the event in the context of our country’s EU accession process.
“It is both an honor and a responsibility to host Study in Europe event in Chișinău for the first time and to hold relevant discussions about the quality of education and study opportunities in Europe for young people – especially the opportunities offered by Erasmus+ Programme,” said Pavlov.
In the coming days, several events will be organized, including a seminar for universities aimed at connecting higher education institutions in Europe with those in the Republic of Moldova, as well as an education fair. Representatives of authorities and universities, together with experts and education specialists from the Republic of Moldova and abroad, will take part in discussions on European Union policies in higher education.
Participants will also explore opportunities for international cooperation under the Erasmus+ programme and will discuss the development of joint projects and the expansion of academic partnerships.
Study in Europe initiative will conclude on 6 May with an education fair in Chișinău dedicated to students, school pupils and parents. Visitors will have the opportunity to interact directly with representatives of universities and national promotion agencies, from whom they can obtain information about study programmes, scholarships and academic mobility opportunities. Universities from around 12 EU member states, including Spain, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Romania, Germany, Hungary, Latvia and Slovakia have confirmed the participation.
Holding the event strengthens dialogue and the exchange of expertise with European partners, facilitating the development of new academic partnerships and joint projects. The initiative also helps to increase the visibility of the higher education system of the Republic of Moldova and to speed up its internationalization and modernization processes. In this way, our country is consolidating its position within the European education area, offering more opportunities for students and teachers, such as exchanges of experience and study abroad.
In recent years, more than 600 million euros have been invested in the country’s university infrastructure, including in modern laboratories, upgraded learning spaces and improved student dormitories. At present, five universities in the Republic of Moldova are internationally accredited by quality assurance agencies such as ARACIS (Romania), as well as through programme accreditations offered by agencies from Romania, Estonia, Germany and Kazakhstan.
