Moldovan weightlifter sets U-17 world, European record in the snatch

Weightlifter Nicoleta Cojocaru has achieved a major performance for Moldova at the Junior World Championships in Egypt, setting a new world and European record in the 17-year-old age category in the snatch event.

The sportswoman successfully lifted 91 kg at the 58 kg weight category, a result that secured her both records and confirmed her very strong progress at international level. In the clean and jerk, Cojocaru lifted 106 kg, and with a total of 197 kg she placed sixth in the overall ranking.

The Junior World Weightlifting Championships this year are held in Egypt and bring together the best young sportspeople from all over the world, being one of the most important competitions in this discipline at U-20 and U-17 level.

The competition is organized under the aegis of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and includes the classic snatch and clean and jerk events, both for men and women, across multiple weight categories. Participation in this championship is considered an important milestone in the careers of young weightlifters, giving them possibility to compete at world level and to validate their performances in the face of strong competition from dozens of countries.
