Unknown drone spotted near Moldova-Ukraine border in Ștefan Vodă district
An unidentified flying device, similar to a Shahed-type drone, was observed on the morning of March 17, 2026, at around 01:30, in the area of responsibility of Olănești Border Police Sector, about 200 meters from the state border, on Iaski (Ukraine) – Crocmaz (Republic of Moldova) direction.
According to the Border Police, the object was detected at an altitude of up to 150 meters, flying over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova in the mentioned sector, after which it continued its movement in the direction of the locality of Căplani.
The authorities noted that, based on the available data, all procedural measures were undertaken in accordance with the legislation in force. The area is also being monitored by the competent institutions, and so far no objects or elements have been identified that would pose a threat to citizens’ security.
In the same context, the Border Police announced that it continues to cooperate with national institutions and international partners to ensure the surveillance and security of the state border.
