VIDEO // Head of Balti-based territorial office of Pobeda Bloc detained in voters' corruption, illegal party financing, money laundering case

The head of the Balti-based territorial office of the Pobeda (Victory) Bloc today was detained in a case of voters’ corruption, illegal political party financing, and money laundering. Until now, he was said to be hiding in the Transnistrian region from where he coordinated the criminal group's activities.

According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), in last September, investigation officers conducted 46 searches in various localities across Moldova, in cases targeting individuals affiliated with the Shor criminal organization.

Thus, a group of citizens with well-defined roles acted in the interest of this organization, with the aim of influencing voters ahead of the 2025 parliamentary elections. To achieve this goal, sums of money from suspicious sources were allegedly used.

‘’At the time of the searches, the 56-year-old man was not at home. Subsequently, from operative information, it was established that he was hiding in the Transnistrian region, from where he coordinated the criminal group's activities,’’ said the IGP.

At present, the suspect is under criminal investigation for illegal financing of political parties, initiative groups, electoral bribery and money laundering.

If found guilty, the suspect faces 7 to 15 years in prison, a fine ranging from 92,500 to 117,500 lei and deprivation of the right to hold certain offices or to perform certain activities for a term from 5 to 10 years.
